05 May Bike Day
Having Grade 1 Bike Day on our beautiful campus on a clear, sunny day made us realise how blessed we are to be part of this wonderful school. The Grade 1s enjoyed showing their friends their bikes and their helmets, as well as demonstrating their cycling skills. They energetically cycled on the fields, but also had some time to play when they were tired. One of the girls expertly fixed her own bicycle chain when it slipped off: a future engineer! They discussed rules for cycling and came up with their own rules – many more than the teachers would have suggested. This shows that young children are rule-bound and that they enjoy having boundaries. During this week, the Grade 1s will also learn about the parts of a bike, and will draw pictures of their own bicycles.
