19 Nov Grade 9s – Art and Activism through Printmaking
This term, the Grade 9 Visual Arts students explored printmaking. They were introduced to the history of printmaking in South Africa and the characteristic bold, patterned and contrasting relief prints created by artists such as John Muafangejo.
Having been given a theme around Art and Activism, they designed a bold Linocut print that highlights a cause or social issue close to their hearts. For their practical examination, they printed their carved designs onto a canvas shopper. In this way, they not only make their voices heard, but also encourage a plastic-free future.
