16 Nov #UplandsJourney2020 (Departure of Group 6)
For the past five days, we have bade farewell to the 2020 Journey Groups. Today was a bittersweet moment as we said goodbye to our last group, Ubhejane. The final send-off was conducted by Mr Vincent Gelderbloem. He encouraged the girls by saying that if the five groups who left before them could rise above the challenge, so could they.
He left the girls with a quote from Mark Twain: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
The 2019 Ubhejane group assured the 2020 group that they would enjoy their Journey. They just had to keep a few things in mind, such as never walk too fast or too slow during their hikes and if someone says we are almost there, that is not 100% true. The 2019 group led the girls in singing, “Come the Day”.
Ubhejane, it is your time to shine. Embrace this challenge and discover who you are and what you are capable of but, most importantly enjoy this experience, as the feeling of being nervous and anxious will soon give way to a sense of adventure. Thank you, Mrs Riana Pienaar and Mrs Karen van Wyk, for embarking on this adventure with our girls.
