09 Oct Valediction 2020
On the 9th of October 2020, Uplands Matric Class of 2020, along with special guests, parents, teachers and fellow pupils, attended their final Valediction Assembly on a perfect, warm Lowveld morning.
The class were honoured for their ability to adapt to the unusual year and memories were shared from their five years at Uplands College. Some of them have been at Uplands since Grade 000 which has given them the privilege of being on campus for 15 years.
Rev’d Andrew Simons began the morning with a prayer, followed by the school song. The College Head, Mrs Heidi Rea, and the Deputy Head, Mr Vincent Gelderbloem, both addressed the Class of 2020 and wished them well for their upcoming exams and for their future studies and adventures. Lucy van der Meulen introduced the Grade 12 incredible Final Art Exhibition, followed by Molebogeng (Lebo) Lamola’s musical performance. Deputy Head Mentors, Thato Sebopela and Frederich De Koker, gave their final speech to the school. Mr Mark Ponting (Chairman of the Uplands Past Pupils’ Association: UPPA) gave an address on the behalf of UPPA and Mr Gelderbloem led The Charge, after which Rev’d Andrew Simons concluded with a blessing. The service was completed by the tradition of the Matrics leading the school in “Come the Day” and the ringing of the school bell, followed by a delicious brunch for everyone.
