02 Jun ‘Worm’ tunnel
In our Grade 000 programme, we set aside special and exciting times for the children to work on their gross motor skills. During one of these lessons, the children had the opportunity to navigate their way around an obstacle course set up by their teachers. They each had a turn to hop over mini-hurdles, walk along a balance beam and then crawl through a ‘worm’ tunnel. The highlight for them was going through the worm. This fun-filled activity helps develop their planning, balance and coordination skills. These activities might seem easy for us as adults, but these little ones are still in the process of developing their gross motor skills, and for many of them, this activity was challenging. However, they displayed great grit and determination, and all completed the obstacle course.
