Executive Head Welcome

Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions a family makes. It is not only about academics or facilities; it is about where your child will feel known, stretched, supported and genuinely happy. At Uplands, belonging sits at the heart of all we do. We are proud to be both a leading day and boarding school, offering a connected, caring community for every pupil.

Set on a magnificent 110-hectare estate in Mpumalanga close to the Kruger National Park, our campus offers something increasingly rare: space. Space to think, to explore, to learn and to play. Our natural surroundings, together with our ongoing rewilding of parts of the estate, reflect a deep commitment to stewardship and give pupils room to grow.

What truly defines Uplands, however, is our people. In our Pre-Prep, Prep and College you will find purposeful classrooms, lively fields and a spirit of curiosity. We value academic innovation and encourage pupils to think critically, ask questions and engage confidently with the world around them.

Rooted in our Anglican heritage and shaped by strong values, we are also an inclusive and welcoming school. Kindness, respect and integrity matter here.

Academic excellence is important, but it is not the whole story. Sport, the arts, service and character development all play their part. Experiences such as our grade camps, the Courageous Challenge initiative and The Journey often become defining moments, building resilience and self-belief.

Above all, every child at Uplands is known. Our staff hold high expectations and take the time to understand each pupil as an individual. We are committed to helping every young person find their strengths and thrive.

The best way to understand Uplands is to visit. Walk the campus. Meet our pupils and staff. You will quickly sense whether this is the right place for your family.

We would be delighted to welcome you.

Sean Carlisle
Executive Head

Dear Uplands Team

I just wanted to send this message of appreciation to you and the Uplands Family of stewards and leaders.

My child started in Term 2 last year, so I did not have the opportunity to join in the Founders Weekend festivities. This year, I made the time and brought my parents aged 83 and 88 with me to share the experience. My siblings and I are alumni of St Stithians and St Mary’s in Johannesburg and have attended our fair share of “Old Girls” and “Founders” events. This, however, was an experience second to none. The candle-lighting ceremony, the flag waving, the performances, the first team rugby match were such highlights of our time together and really cemented for me (and my parents) that we could not have sent our precious boy to a better place and community.

The grounds staff, the efficiency of the organisation, the politeness of the pupils – I can just go on and on. My parents really wanted me to express on their behalf, and I do on our own behalf as parent, our immense appreciation to all who work at Uplands for the amazing work you do, both in and out of the classroom.

Enkosi Kakhulu! uThixo anigcine anibusise futhi!
(Thank you very much! God keep you and bless you!)

Warm regards
