On Saturday 25 May 2024, we celebrated the Class of 2004 and the Class of 2014. Whether 10 or 20 years have passed, reconnecting with old school friends and sharing some of the silly things that have happened, spending time remembering and laughing over early antics, has become the essence of our Uplands Reunions. Many came from far and wide to be with us – Portugal, the United Kingdom, Mozambique, eSwatini, Cape Town and Johannesburg!
Mr Sean Carlisle, a 2004 Uplands History teacher and the Executive Head of Uplands, warmly welcomed everyone. Mr Allan Laing, the Head of Uplands College, expressed sincere gratitude to those attending. Mr Laing also highlighted the newly-created Uplands Past Pupils Association (UPPA) space which was the venue for this year’s reunion.
Hyla Moffett (Class of 2004) shared her heartfelt experience of an incredibly special Uplands – both as a past Head Girl and from her new perspective as a current parent.
Thembi Nyathi (Class of 2014) spoke of her memories, remembering especially the pioneering Grade 10 Journey, and how this experience had enriched the lives of the Class of 2014, as well as how this immense challenge prepared them all for the outside world.
Shaun van der Merwe (Current Staff) spoke of his deep gratitude for the kindness shown to him personally, especially during his leave of absence from Uplands for a few years. Eddie Prideaux-Brune (Past Staff of 2014) felt that a strong bond existed within the Class of 2014 and conveyed sincere thanks.
Saturday evening was a true celebration of our most treasured past pupils. Please come back soon and let’s stay connected!
