The Work of Our DEIB Committee
At Uplands, we seek to educate our children, staff, parents and the greater community to honour diversity and to demonstrate the transformation in a real and dynamic way. We believe that every pupil, staff member and family deserve to feel seen, heard and valued. That belief is at the heart of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) Committee – a dedicated group of educators, parents and pupils working together to build a more inclusive school culture.
The DEIB Committee meets regularly to listen, learn and lead. Whether through organising cultural heritage celebrations, reviewing curriculum for diverse representation or facilitating community conversations, the committee is committed to ensuring that our school reflects and respects the diversity of our community.
Recent initiatives include increasing the presence of diversity and inclusion within the school curriculum ie. school plays, prayers, classroom material, initiating new school events that call to parents that would not usually attend, delving into difficult conversations that allow our kids to ask questions. These efforts are guided by the understanding that creating an equitable learning environment requires active participation and ongoing reflection.
Looking ahead, the DEIB Committee continues to welcome input and collaboration from the broader school community. Together, we’re not just shaping a more inclusive school – we’re preparing students to thrive in a diverse world.
