Callie Haden-Smith (College Class of 2001)

I worked on the local soap opera, Isidingo; spent some years in advertising and ended up in hospitality. I was a camp manager at Londolozi Private Game Reserve for many years then qualified as a Field Guide, working as a ranger at Phinda Private Game Reserve. Thereafter, I went back into management at Singita Private Game Reserve. It was here I met an Australian hotel owner who ‘poached’ me to work in the Australian outback. I’ve spent the last six years at Uluru (Ayers Rock) as the Tour Manager at a Longitude131 as well as working for the Uluru National Park.

Recently I got accepted into the Royal Australian Air Force as a firefighter, and my adventure in this field started this month (April 2021).

I have special memories of Uplands and feel thankful that the people I met there, and what I learnt has got me to where I am today. I’m a very proud dual-citizen and an especially proud Old Uplander.
