The Uplands MTB Classic, powered by Defender Nelspruit, once again delivered an unforgettable day of mountain biking as riders from across Mpumalanga and beyond gathered at Uplands on Sunday, 31 May.
Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Lowveld, the event formed part of the Uplands Founders & Friends Weekend and celebrated everything that makes mountain biking such a special sport – adventure, endurance, camaraderie and a love for the outdoors.
Riders took on a variety of distances, from the challenging 65km marathon route to the 35km half-marathon, the 19km fun ride and the ever-popular 5km kids’ ride. The routes showcased some of the finest trails in the region, winding through the beautiful landscapes of Uplands, MTO Trails, SAFCOL plantations and surrounding farms.
From the first riders lining up not long after sunrise to the final finishers crossing the line, the atmosphere was filled with excitement, encouragement and community spirit. Families, supporters, volunteers and sponsors all played a part in creating a vibrant race village that welcomed experienced racers and first-time riders alike.
A special word of thanks go to the trail builders, landowners, sponsors, organisers, marshals, medical teams and volunteers whose dedication and hard work made the event possible. Their commitment ensured a safe, enjoyable and professionally run event for every participant. The Uplands MTB Classic has earned a reputation as one of the Lowveld’s favourite mountain biking events, combining outstanding routes with warm hospitality and a truly family-friendly atmosphere. Yesterday’s event was another wonderful reminder of the strength of the mountain biking community and the value of bringing people together through sport.
Congratulations to every rider who took on the challenge, whether chasing a podium finish, a personal best or simply the joy of riding. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year for another memorable Uplands MTB Classic.
