Meet Mrs Kerry Dewar our newly appointed Uplands College Deputy Head of Academics
Kerry is a passionate education professional with 14 years of experience in independent education in South Africa. Her skills include being a committed and collaborative team player, being organised and having exceptional time management skills. A high EQ enables a good rapport with students, colleagues and parents in many settings. Kerry’s good verbal and written English skills allow for effective communication. She is also committed to developing better education practices and adapting to change as the need arises.
Kerry holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Pretoria, with specialisations in Genetics, Microbiology and Statistical Genetics. Kerry joins us from St Alban’s College, Pretoria, where she has held the position of Assistant Academic Director for the past two years. Along with this position, she has been the Head of the Life Sciences Department since 2018. Her experience before St Alban’s College included Trinityhouse Schools, Roodepoort and St Mary’s DSG, Pretoria.
In addition to her role as a teacher, Kerry has also been extensively involved in the Independent Examinations Board as a Senior Marker since 2015, a Regional Moderator since 2016 and, most recently, has been appointed as the National Examiner for Life Sciences Paper 1 Supplementary Examinations (2024 – 2026).
Kerry joins Uplands with her husband Chad and her daughter Emma, who will be joining Uplands Preparatory in Grade 4. In looking forward to joining us, Kerry hopes to find creative ways to improve teaching and learning at Uplands College, and to work on improving the academics at the school by goal setting with teachers and students. She would also like to be involved with tertiary study and career conversations and facilitate the making of connections between the classroom and the world. Her hobbies include reading, walking/hiking, cooking and scuba diving when she is able to get to the coast.
We look forward to welcoming Kerry and her family in the second term.
