Last weekend of May 2028
Uplands is proud to announce its Centenary Celebration in 2028. The main event will be held over the last weekend of May 2028, during the annual Founders weekend. A series of smaller events and highlights will continue during the course of 2028. The celebration marks 100 years of educational excellence, enduring values and a remarkable legacy that has shaped generations of pupils.
Founded on principles that honour character, scholarship and community, Uplands has long stood as a beacon of tradition and continuity. The Centenary will be both a celebration of the past and a confident step into the future, bringing together past pupils, current families, staff and friends of the school from around the world.
Central to the Centenary celebrations will be the Uplands Past Pupils Association (UPPA), whose enduring role in preserving connection, fellowship and loyalty across generations remains a cornerstone of the Uplands story. UPPA will play a vital role in drawing together past pupils, former staff and community members, reinforcing the lifelong bonds formed at Uplands and ensuring that the Centenary is a truly inclusive and intergenerational occasion.
Equally important to the Centenary is the involvement of the Uplands Foundation, which will be a key beneficiary of the celebrations. The Foundation plays a vital role in safeguarding the future of the school by supporting access to education, development initiatives and long-term sustainability. Through the Centenary programme, the Uplands community will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the Foundation, ensuring that the values and opportunities that defined the past continue to shape future generations.
The Centenary weekend will incorporate and elevate the school’s much-loved annual Founders Celebrations, anchoring the programme firmly in the customs and ceremonies that define Uplands. A series of special events is planned, culminating in a distinguished gala dinner, featuring an exceptional performer (to be announced), along with a range of commemorative, cultural and social events designed to reconnect generations of the Uplands family.
In the build-up to the Centenary, a curated collection of Uplands memorabilia will be made available, offering past pupils and supporters the opportunity to own a piece of the school’s history while supporting Centenary and Foundation initiatives.
A significant highlight of the Centenary will be the launch of The Tale Continues, the sequel to A Tale of a School by Liz McIntosh. This new publication will reflect on Uplands’ journey since its founding, capturing the spirit, stories and traditions that have endured, while charting the school’s evolution into its second century.
As Uplands approaches this historic milestone, the focus remains clear: to honour its history, celebrate its legacy, and strengthen the community that has sustained the school for a century — with UPPA and the Uplands Foundation working together to carry these connections and values forward.
Further details regarding the Centenary programme, events and commemorative initiatives will be released closer to the celebration. We invite all our stakeholders to engage with Sally Greathead, the Champion of this event, should you be interested in joining the team to build a truly memorable and historical event or simply by sharing your stories of Uplands.
