On the 2nd of March 2026, Uplands College hosted the annual “Signing of the Pledge” ceremony, a traditional rite of passage which signifies the official induction of the Grade 8 group into the College.
The Grade 8s pledged to uphold the school values and to make a significant contribution to the College community during their time at the school. This ceremony encompasses various symbolic actions:
- The removal of the Grade 8 helmets by the relevant tutors signifies an end to their time of induction
- The ringing of the school bell signifying their entry into the College
- The receipt of their house badges and school ties, with their ties being placed around their necks by each of their Matric buddies, who will play a significant role in guiding them through their first year at the school
The school welcomed them by singing the anthem, “Come The Day”, after which celebrations were held with the school community, who congratulated them on their official induction into the school as Uplanders.
