‘On the warm winter’s morning of Thursday 06 June, the Class of 2024 had the privilege of planting three Wild Pear (Dombeya rotundifolia) trees into the Pump Track which has been demarcated as the Matric Indigenous Forest.
The drinking water fountain close to the start of the pump track pays tribute to the very first Class of 2021 who established this legacy. Each year, the Matric Class plants indigenous trees into this area in an effort to create an indigenous forest which is so integral in the re-wilding of the Uplands Campus. This re-wilding is part of the 2028 strategic plan for Uplands and we are proud to be associated with this project. Forever thanks go to the Class of 2021 and the van der Westhuyzen and Alberts families – without whom none of this would be possible.’
